Shawanna Burton is a LAPC (Licensed Associate Professional Counselor) applicant who works with individuals, couples, and families as well as small groups.
Shawanna holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Walden University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Emmanuel College and an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Gainesville State College/University of North Georgia.
Prior to entering graduate school, Shawanna worked with the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services in which she worked closely with entire family units and also with individuals. Since transitioning from DFCS, Shawanna has also worked as a Career Coach and Program Assistant with Action Incorporated High School Youth Program where she focused specifically on providing professional guidance to high school and college students so they could develop graduation and career plans.
Shawanna plans on integrating career and solution-focused therapies in counseling, but will implement other cognitive-behavioral techniques to aid clients in achieving their goals. Shawanna also comes from a background of providing support and practical feedback. She encourages clients to conceptualized healing and behavioral change as an everyday process.
A long-time Athens area resident, Shawanna lives with her husband and two daughters. Shawanna enjoys watching UGA sports, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.
